Who We Are

Healthy Aligned Living (HAL) is a nonprofit youth empowerment initiative based in Edmonton, Alberta.

We support youth aged 14–29 who are facing challenges like addiction, trauma, mental health issues, and identity crises.

Our work is grounded in real-world experience, trauma-informed care, and a deep belief in the power of transformation.

At HAL, we focus on healing, community, and purpose — helping youth align mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Our Story

HAL was born from lived experience. Founded by Andre Richards and Darren Dyrland, who have walked through the same fires our youth face, HAL exists to turn pain into purpose.

From surviving addiction and trauma, he developed a heart to create something better for the next generation.

HAL started with a vision: to be the space we wish we had — where honesty, healing, and hope live together.

Today, HAL continues to grow as a movement built by those who’ve been there, for those still on the path.

Empowering youth to overcome trauma and addiction by providing a safe, supportive space for healing and growth.

Our Beliefs

We believe healing is possible for everyone, no matter what they’ve been through.

We believe in meeting youth where they are — with empathy, respect, and real-life tools.

We believe empowerment comes through choice, identity, and community — not control or shame.

And we believe faith can be a strength — when offered as an invitation, not a requirement.

Our Impact

HAL offers more than programs — we offer connection, hope, and transformation.

Through SMART Recovery, peer mentorship, boxing, barbershop sessions, and workshops, youth grow in confidence and healing.

Youth leave our programs with stronger identities, practical life skills, and deeper purpose.

Our impact is measured in real lives changed — and we’re just getting started.

Built on lived experience and hope, our programs guide youth toward lasting change and renewed purpose.

Darren Dyrland

Darren Dyrland “Every young person deserves to feel seen, heard, and safe. My lived experience isn’t a weakness—it’s the bridge I use to reach and empower them.”

Andre Richards

“I built HAL because I know what it feels like to struggle. Now, I get to walk with others as they find healing, strength, and a new future.”
